Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy
In the municipal sector, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) controls access to information and privacy. MFIPPA states that an individual has the right to access certain information that’s kept by a municipality and that a municipality must protect the personal and proprietary information in its custody.
MFIPPA contains mandatory and discretionary exemptions that a municipality may use to limit the disclosure of certain records, to make sure that privacy is protected. These exemptions only apply in specific instances and will determine how much information is provided in response to a request made under MFIPPA.

How to make a request
The Township attempts to provide as much information as possible to the public without requiring a formal request under the Act. Persons wishing to access any records held by the Township should first contact the department which holds the records. If you are unable to get all the information you would like informally, a formal written request under the Act can be filed.
Complete a freedom of information request form and either submit it online or bring it to the Township Office with a $5 application fee payable to the Township of Puslinch.
How long will it take?
The Act sets out specific time limits that the Township must follow when processing requests for information. Generally, the Township has 30 calendar days from the date a complete request is received (including the $5 application fee) to respond to the request.
