Protect Yourself from Fraudulent Invoices

The Township is aware that fraudulent emails and invoices may be sent to individuals. These communications can appear legitimate and may include familiar names, project information or Township branding.

Before making a payment:

  • Review the invoice and payment instructions carefully.
  • Be cautious of unexpected requests, urgent demands, unusual payment methods or changes to previously provided payment instructions.
  • Do not click links, open attachments, reply to the message or use contact information contained in a suspicious email.
  • Independently verify the invoice with the Township using the telephone number or contact information published on the Township’s official website.
  • Financial correspondence is generally sent from finance@puslinch.ca or taxes@puslinch.ca.
  • When the Township provides a copy of an original third-party invoice, banking-related information and signatures are redacted.
  • Online payments may be made either directly through the Township website, or CloudPermit for Building and Development Applications.
  • The Township’s banking information is not included with invoices or correspondence and is only provided to a vendor when requested.
  • The Township will never request payment by wire transfer.

The appearance of Township branding, staff names, application details or an email address that appears familiar does not, by itself, confirm that a communication is legitimate.

If you believe you have received a fraudulent invoice, please notify the Township. If a payment has already been made, contact your financial institution immediately and report the incident to the appropriate authorities.
