McQuillan’s Bridge – City of Guelph Notice of Study Commencement and Public Open House

The City of Guelph has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study for McQuillan’s Bridge, which crosses the Eramosa River adjacent to Stone Road East in Guelph.

McQuillan’s Bridge (Structure 116) – also known as the Stone Road East Bow Truss Bridge – is a former vehicle bridge that was repurposed as a pedestrian bridge in 2005 when Stone Road East was realigned. Originally constructed in 1916, McQuillan’s Bridge was designated as a heritage property in 2004 and is considered a significant cultural heritage resource in the City of Guelph. The EA Study will consider solution alternatives to address the bridge’s deterioration and opportunities to integrate heritage conservation with technical, economic, social and natural environmental criteria.

Public Open House Events

The City of Guelph will host two public open houses, including online engagement opportunities, during this study.

The first public open house will be held:

  • Date & Time: Thursday November 6, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m
  • Location: The Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 234), 57 Watson Parkway South, Guelph ON N1L 0H8.

At this first public open house, the City will be introducing the study and seeking feedback on the problem-opportunity statement and the evaluation criteria.

A second Public Open House will be scheduled in early 2026 to provide further updates and collect feedback on the solution alternatives for the bridge.

Public open house materials will be available online for review and feedback at the City’s Have Your Say Engagement Platform: https://haveyoursay.guelph.ca/victoria-stone-assessment.
