Information about Ticks and Lyme Disease

If you have questions or concerns about ticks or Lyme disease, please refer to Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health. They can answer your questions, and have information to help you identify a tick that you may have encountered. The southern part of Wellington County (Puslinch) has been identified by active surveillance as a high risk area.

Lyme disease is a serious illness caused by bacteria that are spread through the bite of an infected blacklegged tick (also known as a deer tick). Ticks usually wait on low-growing vegetation and easily latch onto people and pets that brush against them. If you think you have been bitten, keep the tick and take a photo. Public health can help to identify the type of tick it is.
